A spreadsheet with units, built into your calculation
Equation Pad puts a spreadsheet on the same sheet as your equations. Cells can hold numbers with units, formulas work the way you expect, and any cell or range can be used in the maths lines below, so load tables, section properties and schedules sit right next to the checks that use them.

Numbers with units in the cells
Type 4.2 kN, 350 mm or 25 MPa in a cell. Formulas keep the units: =B2*C2 of a load per metre and a length gives kN, and adding a force to a length gives an error instead of a wrong number.
A real spreadsheet editor
The spreadsheet opens in its own full-screen editor: drag the fill handle to copy formulas or continue a series, copy and paste ranges (also to and from other spreadsheet programs), undo, insert and delete rows and columns, sort, filter, freeze the top row, and format cells with number formats, borders and colours. Several tabs live in one spreadsheet.
More than a hundred functions
=SUM(D2:D20)
=SUMIF(B2:B20, ">10", D2:D20)
=VLOOKUP("IPE 300", A2:F40, 4, FALSE)
=IF(E5 <= E6, "OK", "FAIL")
=ROUND(AVERAGE(C2:C9), 2)
=INDEX(A2:A40, MATCH(MAX(F2:F40), F2:F40, 0))
Maths, statistics, logic, lookup, text, date and money functions, with a searchable list inside the editor. Every maths function of the calculator works in cells too.
Cells feed the calculation
M_Ed := Loads!D12 = kN*m
A := Sections!Sheet2!C4
total := sum(Costs!D2:D4) =
A maths line can read any cell, range or tab, and a cell can use variables defined above the spreadsheet. Change a value in the table and every check below updates.
Open and save .xlsx and .csv
Bring a table in from an .xlsx workbook or a .csv file, and save one spreadsheet or all of them as an .xlsx workbook, with every tab as a worksheet.
Questions
Can spreadsheet cells hold units?
Yes. A cell can hold 4.2 kN or 350 mm, and formulas carry the units through, converting and checking them.
Which spreadsheet functions are supported?
More than a hundred, including SUM, SUMIF, SUMIFS, AVERAGE, COUNTIF, IF, IFS, IFERROR, VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, INDEX, MATCH, ROUND, TEXT, DATE and PMT, plus every maths function of the calculator.
Does it have tabs?
Yes. A spreadsheet can have several tabs. Maths lines read a cell of another tab as Name!Tab!B3.
Can I paste from another spreadsheet program?
Yes. Copy cells there and paste them into the editor, or copy cells from Equation Pad and paste them back.
