Solve equations and systems
root(f(x), x, 1) finds where a function is zero near a guess, or between two limits. solve(x^2 == 2, x, 1) solves one equation, and solve([x + y == 3, x - y == 1], [x, y], [1, 1]) solves a system. Units work throughout.
Calculus and differential equations
- Definite integrals:
integrate(f(x), x, 0, 2). - Derivatives, exact or at a point:
diff(f(x), x),diff(f(x), x, 2). - Sums:
summation(k^2, k, 1, 10). - Differential equations stepped through time with
ode, ready to plot. - Symbolic simplify and expand.
See the problem before you solve it
plot([f(x), 2], x, -1, 5) draws curves with a read-out under the mouse, so you can see where the roots are and choose a good guess.
Part of a full calculation
The solver lives inside a calculation sheet: define your inputs with units above it, use the answers below it, and issue the whole thing as a PDF or .docx document.
