Privacy policy
Last updated: 10 October 2026
The short version: we never see or store your calculations. Equation Pad works inside your browser. The only personal data we hold is the name and email address you give us if you join the waitlist or contact us.
Who we are
This website and the Equation Pad app are run by Equation Pad ("we", "us"), based in the United Kingdom. We are responsible for the personal data described here. You can reach us at eqn.pad@gmail.com.
Your calculations and worksheets
All calculation, typesetting and drawing happens on your own device, in your browser. Your worksheets are not sent to us, and we have no copy of them.
- Draft in your browser. While you work, the app keeps a draft of the open worksheet and your settings (such as the colour theme and toolbar layout) in your browser's storage on your device, so an accidental close does not lose your work. This stays on your device; you can clear it at any time in your browser settings.
- Files you save. When you save, the worksheet is written as an .eqnpad file to a place you choose on your computer.
- Exports and sharing. PDFs and web pages are made on your device. When you share by email or WhatsApp, your own email app or WhatsApp sends the file; we are not involved.
Google Drive and OneDrive (optional)
If you choose File ▸ Cloud, you sign in with Google or Microsoft in a window run by them, and the worksheet goes straight from your browser to your own Google Drive or OneDrive. It does not pass through our servers and we cannot see it.
- Google Drive: the app asks only for access to files it creates or that you open with it.
- OneDrive: the app asks for access to your files so that it can save worksheets and find them again when you want to open one.
- The sign-in permission is kept only in the open browser tab and is forgotten when you close it. We never receive or store it.
Google's and Microsoft's own privacy terms apply to your use of their services. You can remove Equation Pad's access at any time in your Google or Microsoft account settings.
The waitlist
If you join the waitlist, on this website or from the card in the app, we collect your name and email address.
- Why: to tell you when Equation Pad launches and to send your early-bird offer.
- Legal basis: your consent. You can withdraw it at any time by replying "unsubscribe" to any email from us or by writing to us.
- Who processes it: the form is handled by Formspree, a form service that stores submissions on our behalf. Formspree may store data in the United States; transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
- How long: until you unsubscribe, or at the latest 12 months after launch, after which we delete it.
We never sell your details or share them with anyone for their own marketing.
Emails you send us
If you email us, we use your message and address only to reply and to help you, and we keep the correspondence for as long as needed for that purpose.
Feedback from the app
The app may ask how you feel about it, on a scale from 0 to 5, and you can add a comment and, if you want a reply, your email address. If you send it, our server stores the rating, the comment, the email address you typed (if any), the app version and the date, and emails them to us. It never includes your worksheet, and no IP address or cookie is stored with it. We use it only to improve Equation Pad and to reply to you, and delete it when it is no longer needed.
Counting visits
To know roughly how many people use Equation Pad and how they find it, we keep a few totals. We use no analytics company, set no cookies and keep nothing that identifies you or your device:
- Website: the first page you open on a day adds one to the day’s count, together with the kind of place you came from: a search engine, an AI assistant, a social or community website, an email, another website (its address, such as example.com) or none (typed in or bookmarked). Your browser remembers the date of your last counted visit, so you are counted at most once a day. The totals are not shown on the site.
- App: when the app opens it adds one to the count, says whether this is the first time in this browser or a return on a later day, from time to time how many seconds the tab was visible, and that a worksheet was saved or exported to PDF (only that it happened, never the file, its name or its content). Your browser remembers only the dates of your first and last visit.
- What your browser remembers is kept in its storage (not a cookie) and never leaves it. Our server keeps only the totals per day, no IP address, and never your worksheet.
- Legal basis: our legitimate interest in understanding, in totals, how the site and the app are used, so we can improve them.
Your choice: The choice applies to this website and the app in this browser.
Paid plans
When paid plans open, payments will be handled by a specialist payment provider that acts as the seller of record and handles tax. We will receive your name, email address, country and plan, but never your card details. We will update this policy, naming the provider, before paid plans start.
Website hosting
Like every website, our web host records technical information when pages are requested (such as IP address, browser type and the page asked for) to deliver the site and keep it secure. These logs are kept for a short time and are not used to identify or profile you.
Cookies and tracking
This website and the app set no cookies, and use no analytics, advertising or tracking services (the visit counts above are totals only). Fonts and program libraries are served from our own site, so loading a page does not contact any other company. The browser storage described above is used only to make the app work for you and stays on your device.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its use, or transfer it to you. Email eqn.pad@gmail.com and we will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We would appreciate the chance to help first.
Children
Equation Pad is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page, and tell people on the waitlist about any important change.
